Alden Mill House -
One of our favorite places to visit, this remodeled
house in Alden at the southeast corner of Torch Lake
reminds us of Pippi Longstocking's Villa Villakula, but
nicely fixed up! Outside, the east lawn is immaculate
with incredible gardens. But the west side is entirely
overgrown, with an Alligator Alley, Chef Geno's Thinking
Room (i.e., a nicely-decorated outhouse) and many more
wonderful things to look at. Inside is the most amazing
smell. The mill house is in the back of the house, and
Chef Geno's blends smell absolutely incredible. Along
with his own spices, soup mixes, broths and other items,
the store inside carries thousands of unique culinary
tools and cookware items. There are also rooms with
delightful decorative items for the kitchen and home. If
you end up anywhere near this place, be sure to go. You
can also order on their web site, etc., and can find
Chef Geno's spices elsewhere. But the trip is really
worth it.

American Spoon Foods
- This Petosky-based company specializes in jarred
preserves, spoon fruit and salsas but also carries many
other great food items. Some of their products are quite
unique, such as their kiwi-lime salsa, and cranberry
mustard. Visiting one of their stores can be quite
filling as there's a tendency to try everything. As with
many locations on this page there are also other means
of purchasing Spoon products. Just check their web site.
